Division Two Champions end unbeaten
TIMPERLEY completed their most successful campaign since joining the league in 1993 when they won by five wickets at Grappenhall to complete a triumphant unbeaten season as Division Two champions. It was their seventh straight victory giving them a tally of 410 points, 69 more than runners-up Bollington.
A feeble Grappenhall batting effort saw them sent back for 86, skipper Richard Green falling for 19, just 80 short of his targeted 1,000. Showing most of his seniors how to bat properly was 14 year old Callum Rowe, top scorer with 20 not out. Nick Liddell claimed 3-28 for Timperley, while Mark Maddocks ended the home innings with his 50 th victim. With a weakened side, the champions replied with 87-5, Kiwi Russ Edwards 37.
Burnage showed their potential for next season with a six wickets win on the ground of promoted Bollington. Majahid Jamshed scored 92 not out and Mohammed Kamran 71 as Burnage replied with 185-4 (Kevin Waterhouse 3-58) to Bolly’s 182-9 declared, Waterehouse 57. Shabaz Sarfraxz included a hat-trick in his 4-15 return.
Tattenhall bade farwewell to the league after a three-season stay with a winning draw at Flacca Field against Middlewich. Rob Mulverhill scored 54 to help Tattenhall declare at 175-9 and Middlewich limped to 121-8 in response. Tattenhall skipper Graham Forster had fond memories of his final game with a 6-40 return.
Malpas are coming up
Middlewich thus finish 11 th and are saved from relegation to the Meller Braggins Cheshire League through champions Presbury being denied promotion due to the topography of their ground.
This distinction is claimed by Malpas who enjoyed a winning draw with Prestbury in their final game to finish runners-up in the Cheshire League’s First Division. The souith-Cheshire side will be the only club promoted in 2006.
Irby finished 10 th after beating Brooklands by two wickets at Mill Hill Road, Brooklands being bowled out for 166, John Birchall 64, Dave Murphy 4-35 and Irby made it with five overs to spare, skipper Dave Newman hitting rthe winning runs within hours of flying home from his honeymoon .
Mobberley are fourth, their highest finishing place, after winning a high-scoring game by 13 runs at Congleton. Mobberley amassed 248-4, Jonny Thompson 77 not out, Stuart Blackburn 60, Jamil Nasir 50 and Congleton got to 235, Tom Blease 66, David Wood 4-22.
Bredbury St. Mark’s also finished on a winning note, beating Sale by 87 runs after running up 251, Rick Lees 76, Mark Sands 67, Rob Moore 4-81. M. Malek contributed 68 to Sale’s 164.
